August 14 - Day 50 - Sunday

August 14 - Day 50 - Sunday
Start - Kenton, MI
End - Ishpeming Township, MI
Miles - 61 (Marcee 31.2, Larry 30.0)
Start time - 920am
End time - 530pm
Miles driven not ridden - 1

It was cold this morning - 51 degrees, and it was foggy.  We deemed it too foggy to start cycling so after packing up we waited until about 8am and went to the pancake feed in Trout Creek held at the American Legion building.  Breakfast was good, for $6 we got our fill of pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, oj, toast and coffee.  They even do a 50/50 to raise further money for the upkeep of the building.

Once we got on the road Marcee was bundled up with long pants and her rain jacket which she seldom needs to wear.  After a few miles she got hot though and was back down to shorts and the Water for Life shirt.

We met another touring cyclist, Don Miliken who was touring around Lake Superior which I believe he said was about 1000 miles.  After chatting with Don we saw two additional touring cyclists who were fully loaded but we did not get a chance to stop and chat with them.  Other than one touring couple on a tandem bicycle in Minnesota I cannot remember any other touring cyclists since Minnesota.

M28 through the northern U.P. has been pretty busy but as we have gotten closer to the cities (Ispeming and Marquette).  Fortunately the shoulder has been about 8ft wide.

After dinner at Wendy's tonight we spent some time down by Lake Superior and watched the moon rise over the Lake.  It was beautiful.  Marquette is a real pretty college town with the Lake right there.  We got some pictures that we will post as well.

We have about two more days in the U.P.
